Letter from Mrs Doran – Chair of Governors

7th September 2020 By chrislamb

Hi everyone

I hope you and your families are well. As your Chair of Governors I wanted to let you know that I had paid a visit to school, both buildings, on Tuesday, keeping social distances and wearing a mask as and when necessary,  just to see how our members of staff were and how the classrooms had been set up in preparation for the children going back to school.

A great deal of work had obviously been done by Paul, our Site Manager, and his staff during the holidays and all the teaching and non-teaching staff in both  buildings were extremely busy putting the final touches to their own classrooms. It was interesting to see the children’s desks all facing the front and it brought back memories of my first year of teaching when the setup was very similar. That was many years ago as some of you will know. Obviously in the infant building the positioning of desks was very different. The staff in our infant building were working very hard to get the outside areas ready for the first day of school and it was amazing to see the many varied opportunities open to the children for outside activities when they return to school.

I was very impressed with all the new seating and storage facilities which were in place in  both playgrounds, and the new outdoor hand washing facilities are going to ease a good deal of any congestion at the end of morning breaks and the lunchtime break.

A great deal of thought and hard work has been put into the new arrangements which will benefit the children in both buildings. It is obvious that all teaching, non-teaching staff and our school Management team are making sure that the start of the school year will go smoothly and your children will be safe and happy at Shotley Bridge Primary School. I would normally offer to help in the Reception classes but due to the virus situation this is not possible at this present time. I hope I will get the opportunity to meet some of our new parents when present circumstances improve.

Best wishes to you all

Judith Doran (Chair of Governors)
