Support for Emotional & Social Development

Shotley Bridge Primary School provides a high level of support for any children with social and emotional needs. Often these needs are identified by families and nurseries  before a child starts school.  We work closely alongside families to ensure a smooth transition into school, for example enhanced transition meetings supported by familiar adults where needed. We incorporate aspects of emotional awareness through our PSHE curriculum and have close links to the Piece of Mind Team (Mental Health Support Team) who offer staff training, cohort interventions and individual support for children/young people and their families.

We ensure that the views of children are listened to through circle time, and  practitioners are highly attuned to any changes in behaviour which may indicate any changing needs in this area.

Our Pupil Well-being lead runs a range of interventions and offers group support and individual interventions such as Draw Talk Therapy.
